Narcissistic abuse recovery counselling
Maybe you’ve left the relationship. Maybe you’re still in it. Either way, you no longer quite trust your own mind, and you want to feel like yourself again. I can help you get there, at your own pace.
Does this sound familiar?
- You replay conversations over and over, trying to work out what really happened.
- You were told you were “too sensitive” or “remembering it wrong” so often that you started to believe it.
- You still walk on eggshells, even when they’re not around.
- You miss them, and you hate that you miss them.
- Friends don’t understand why you can’t “just move on”.
- You’ve lost touch with who you were before.
You’re not imagining it, and you’re not weak
Months or years of criticism, blame and being made to doubt your own memory (often called gaslighting) slowly wear away your confidence and your sense of who you are.
When warmth and cruelty come in unpredictable waves, the mind forms a powerful attachment that’s very hard to break. This is often called a trauma bond. It explains why leaving, or staying away, can feel so impossible, even when you know the relationship hurt you.
None of this is a sign that you’re foolish. It’s a normal human response to an abnormal situation, and it can heal.
How I can help
My approach is trauma-informed, which means your sense of safety comes first and you set the pace. Together we can:
- make sense of what happened, so you can trust your own judgement again
- understand the trauma bond and loosen its hold
- calm the anxiety, overthinking and constant alertness
- rebuild your boundaries and your confidence
- grieve the relationship you hoped you were in
- rediscover who you are, and what you want next
Depending on what suits you, I draw on trauma-informed positive psychology, inner child work, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and the rewind technique.
How it works
- Book a free 30-minute chat. We talk about what’s going on and what you’d like to change. There’s no pressure to continue.
- Weekly 50-minute sessions on Zoom. From home, or anywhere private where you feel comfortable.
- Small steps between sessions. Short, practical exercises help you put what we talk about into everyday life.
I offer sessions seven days a week, including evenings and weekends, so you don’t have to wait for a gap in a waiting list.
Fees: sessions are from £55 for 50 minutes, with monthly packages available. Your first 30-minute chat is free.
If you don’t feel safe right now: the National Domestic Abuse Helpline is free and open 24 hours on 0808 2000 247. The Men’s Advice Line is on 0808 801 0327. In an emergency, call 999.
